30 USM VOLUNTEERS TO LAOS
PENANG, 4 November 2013 - A total of 30 volunteers from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), headed by the Desasiswa Nurani warden, Haji Yusoff Abdullah, held a Volunteer Programme Across Asia through the Malaysian Embassy in Laos in collaboration with the National University of Laos (NUOL).
According to the USM Volunteer Corps Chief, Zulkifli Che’ Hussin, a group of 26 students together with 4 staff departed from Kuala Lumpur on the early morning of 2nd November and they will be in Vientiane, Laos, till 9th November.
“Our mission is to participate in knowledge transfer activities between USM and NUOL students with an emphasis on health care by medical science undergraduates as well as to interact in various sports activities with the people of Vientiane through an evening of cultural exchange activities and community service,” Zulkifli said.
He added that they will also conduct teaching and learning activities in Mathematics and English, as well as teaching and learning information technology - ICT.
“Most importantly, at the same time the project is expected to boost the confidence and the ability of our students and also to give confidence and impart the spirit of volunteerism among our young people,” said Zulkifli again.
The Malaysian Embassy in Laos welcomed their arrival in Laos and a meeting with NUOL’s International Relations Division was held before starting meetings with a number of schools around Vientiane, Laos. - Translation: Yong Check Yoon/Photos contributed by Zulkifli Che’ Hussin
