MOU TO BOOST COLLABORATION BETWEEN USM AND GULF MEDICAL UNIVERSITY
KOTA BAHRU, KELANTAN, 20 August 2019 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) through the School of Medical Sciences has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gulf Medical University (GMU), United Arab Emirates.
The purpose of the signing was to develop academic, research and educational cooperation as well as promoting mutual understanding between the two universities.
During the opening ceremony of the 3rd International Conference on Medical and Health Sciences (3rd ICMHS) and the 24th National Conference on Medical Sciences (24th NCMHS) held here earlier today, the Vice-Chancellor of USM, Professor Datuk Dr. Asma Ismail and the Vice-Chancellor of College of Medicine, GMU, Prof. Manda Venkatramana took the opportunity to exchange the MoU document that was signed in June 2019. The MoU is for a period of 5 years and will end in June 2024.
With the MoU, both parties plan to embark in offering a joint education programme, namely USM-GMU International Medical Twinning Programme, which allows USM students to undergo their Pre-Clinical Studies at GMU and then continue their MD programme at USM.
Furthermore scholarships will be offered to USM faculty, staff, USM alumni and USM recommended students at GMU Campus to pursue the following academic programmes – Joint Masters in Health Professions Education with FAIMER, USA; Executive Master in Healthcare Management and Economics; Master in Public Health (MPH) in collaboration with University of Arizona; and Master in Clinical Pharmacy in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and Virginia Commonwealth University, USA.
