USM RECEIVES COURTESY VISIT FROM CHUBU UNIVERSITY, JAPAN
PENANG, 16 August 2019 – “Chubu University has been one of the active partners of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) with yearly student attachment; the latest being postgraduate research students from Chubu will visit USM for a month and conduct research in the respective fields - ‘Gender Studies’ and ‘Science of Museums’,” said USM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr. Asma Ismail while welcoming delegates from Chubu University, Japan led by its President, Professor Osamu Ishihara.
“Apart from that, the Sakura Science Programme was successfully conducted in 2018 with students from the School of Biological Sciences participating in science and technology exchange programmes arranged by Chubu University.
“Therefore, I strongly believe that both USM and Chubu University will further collaborate in joint studies, research and nurturing a better understanding in the field of pure sciences and social sciences,” she added.
For the record, USM has 16 Japanese students under the Students Exchange Programme and 250 students under the Short Term Programme for the year 2018/2019.
Also present were delegates from Chubu University; USM Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research and Innovation Professor Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed; Director of USM Centre for Marine and Coastal studies (CEMACS), Professor Dato’ Dr. Aileen Tan Shau Hwai and Director, Japanese Cultural Centre (KUFS-USM), Masatoshi Soeda.
