USM PHARMACY SOCIETY ENGAGING THE COMMUNITY WITH HEALTH CAMPAIGN
POS KUALA MU, 24 July 2019 – Students from the Universiti Sains Malaysia Pharmaceutical Science Society (PSF-USM) organised a “Vaccination Awareness Programme” in an orang asli village in Sungai Siput last month.
The health campaign is an avenue used to raise awareness on the importance of vaccination and immunisation to the people in rural areas as well as in nurturing a loving culture through volunteerism activities.
46 students from PSF-USM together with 3 lecturers carried out a series of activities for the orang asli in the Pos Kuala Mu village.
The activities include free health check-ups, counselling service, distribution of groceries and medication, colouring contests and also interactive game sessions for kids.
A vaccination awareness talk was the main event in this programme, which was delivered by a Medical Officer from the Sungai Siput Hospital in Perak.
The programme owed its success due to the collaborative efforts of the Malaysian Pharmacy Students Association (MyPSA), Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA) and the Kuala Kangsar District Health Department.
In conjunction with the outbreak of measles recently in one of the orang asli villages which had resulted in death, students of PSF-USM would also like to urge the public to check on their immunization status and get vaccinated for their well-being.
