USM LEAPS 42 SPOTS AS IT CELEBRATES 50 YEARS
PENANG, 19 June 2019 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) continues its leap in the latest world university rankings, this time up 42 spots.
The recently released Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2020 placed USM at #165, an increase over its position at #207 from the previous year.
Within the last five years, USM has gone up the rungs to reach its best placing throughout that period.
This new rankings places USM in the top 16% of the 1,001 institutions ranked by QS-WUR.
This year USM will celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The USM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr. Asma Ismail, in commenting on the achievement said that USM has always been on the move, ahead and upwards in its planning and implementations.
She added that, “USM has always set its sight on pursuing something bigger. Apart from the rankings, we want to go for impact."
QS-WUR uses six indicators to compile the ranking, which measure academic reputation (40%), employer reputation (10%), faculty/student ratio (20%), citations per faculty (20%), international faculty ratio (5%) and international students ratio (5%).
