SHIRAZ, IRAN, 11 June 2019 – The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Professor Datuk Dr. Asma Ismail is currently in Iran attending the first Islamic World Science Citation Centre (ISC) Executive Committee (EC) Members Meeting chaired by its President, Dr. Mohammad Javad Dehghani.

Asma was appointed as a member of the distinguished ISC Executive Committee in 2018.

ISC, based in Shiraz, Islamic Republic of Iran, was established to promote technical and scientific cooperation among Muslim scientists and Muslim countries worldwide, especially in making scientific publications accessible throughout the Islamic world. Besides promoting academic and scientific cooperation among Islamic countries, it also fosters cooperation between the Islamic world and other counties as well.

The ISC Executive Committee (EC) members had earlier visited the Shiraz University of Medical Sciences (SUMS), one of the oldest medical universities in Iran, which was founded in 1946.

 

They then visited the Shiraz University of Technology. Asma later represented USM in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University.

Asma would also be attending the 2nd International Conference and 13th National Conference of Quality Assessment in University Systems here from 11 until 13 June 2019.

She is one of the invited keynote speakers and will give a talk entitled "The Impact of Quality Assessment Methods in Universities of Malaysia on the Quantity of Scientific Research in this Country” at the Conference.

USM had established links with Iranian institutions in 2017. The Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education had given recognition to all medical science programmes taught at USM.

Asma had also been elected as Honorary Member of the Iranian Academy of Medical Sciences in 2017.
