USM, PENANG, 8 May 2019 – In conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), the School of Computer Sciences has organised ‘Project Innovation & Exploration in CS Education and Learning (PIXEL 2019)’, an exhibition showcasing the school’s final-year students’ projects.

The school’s Dean, Professor Dr. Rosni Abdullah said, “I am delighted that PIXEL 2019 has provided a platform for the final-year students to feature their work among their peers, industry and community members, and at the same time, to receive feedback especially from the industry on how they can improve their projects.

“It also allowed the students to exchange knowledge and experience among themselves and with the industry players during their presentation, and in doing so, it helped them to improve their soft skills particularly in presenting their ideas to the masses,” said Rosni during the prize-giving ceremony at the Dewan Tuanku Syed Putra (DTSP) foyer here last Thursday (May 2).

She added that, as PIXEL evolved into the second year of its inception, this is the first time it was organised as a full-scale exhibition featuring all the final-year projects.

“Also, for the first time, the planning, organising and running of the exhibition involved the entire school’s community including the lecturers, administrative staff and student volunteers led by the Computer Science Society.

“I am pleased with the camaraderie and teamwork shown by the school community and this bodes well for what promises to be a great year for the school and for the university as USM celebrates its 50th anniversary this year,” added Rosni.

With the theme, Paving the Way for New Frontiers,’ PIXEL 2019 showcased a total of 139 final-year projects comprised of system development and research projects, and were evaluated by 14 assessors from various industries that are closely associated with the school such as Aemulus, API Gate, Continental, Dell, Fusionex, Gut Studio, Hilti, Intel and Vitrox.
