The Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM), a "think-tank" and a beacon of excellence in matters related to the development of science, engineering, technology and innovation for the benefit of all, gave recognition to eight more scholars and scientists of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) this year as Top Research Scientist Malaysia (TRSM).

In the ASM Fellows conferment ceremony and announcement of TRSM held recently, two USM scientists Professor Dr. Abdul Latif Ahmad, expert in the field of wastewater treatment and membrane technology, and Professor Dr. Ng Wing Keong, expert in aquaculture operations were awarded the ASM Fellowships.

The awards were conferred by Prime Minister Y.A.B. Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak.

The eight leading USM scientists are

3. Professor Dr. Darah Ibrahim

4. Professor Emeritus Dr. Fun Hoong Kun

5. Professor Dr. Jefri Malin Abdullah

6. Professor Dr. K. Sudesh Kumar C Kanapathi Pillai 

7. Professor Dr. Ng Wing Keong 

8. Professor Dr. Zainuriah Hassan

Out of the 62 luminaries who were recognised as TRSM, 17 were from USM.
