AFLES 2018 - TOWARDS ANOTHER SIGNIFICANT MILESTONE FOR YOUNG LEADERS IN HIGHER EDUCATION
NILAI, 26 July 2018 - Another eventful ASEAN Future Leaders Summit (AFLES) programme was officially inaugurated and officiated on 24th July 2018 by the Minister of Education Malaysia, YB Dr. Maszlee Malik.
Registering an attendance of close to 200 student leaders, including the committee members from 12 different countries and the guests of honour, there was an added glory to the atmosphere of the opening ceremony.
The Director of AKEPT (Higher Education Leadership Academy), Datuk Professor Dr. Rohana Yusof welcomed everyone in her speech and praised the organising committee of AFLES 2108 for their gallant effort in organising the summit.
In his speech, Maszlee thanked the AFLES 2018 committee members for managing and organising a programme which required a major undertaking.
He then encouraged delegates to learn about leadership elements at a young age and build their characters to become successful future leaders, and he reminded on not to merely try things, but to actually do them and achieving the goals.
Maszlee also emphasized on having the love, happiness and mutual respect for education, so that future generations will grow and create a better place to live.
In ending his speech, he was excited to see cheers coming from representatives of all the countries involved and he responded to each cheer to show respect to each country according to their own culture.
Others who were present at this summit organised by AKEPT in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan included the representative of USM Vice-Chancellor, PSU Vice-President for International Affairs, UiTM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), UUM Dean of Student Development and Alumni, UKM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International Affairs) and representatives from Singapore as the honoured guests.
