PENANG, 10 July 2018 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) today received a courtesy visit from the Ambassador of Malaysia to Kazakhstan and the group from ITRAMAS Corporation to discuss on potential collaborations and explore new venture opportunities in Kazakhstan.

USM Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd. Sadullah, who is also the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic and International, received the visit from the Ambassador of Malaysia to Kazakhstan, His Excellency Syed Mohamad Bakri bin Syed Abd Rahman and the Group Managing Director of ITRAMAS Corporation, Lee Choo Boo.

The discussion touched on the intent to establish academic initiatives between USM and academic institutions in Kazakhstan.

The discussion also involved plans on having USM setting up a campus for engineering programme in Kazakhstan, something similar to the academic and business model of USM-KLE International Medical Programme in Bergaum, Karnataka India.

In addition, USM also hopes to promote the academic programmes available at the USM campuses to the students in Kazakhstan, as currently there is only one postgraduate student from Kazakhstan undergoing studies at the USM Main Campus in Penang.

Others who were present include the delegates from ITRAMAS, Datuk Seri Irmohizam bin Ibrahim and Azizul Nizam Bidin, the ITRAMAS Corporate Advisors. 

ITRAMAS Corporation Sdn Bhd, established in 1999, is the leading Malaysian engineering company in green technology and public works. It has extensive experience in implementing large-scale public projects for the government, in relation to advanced engineering and green technology sectors covering both areas of Renewable Energy (RE) and Energy Efficiency (EE).

Also present from USM were Director of International Mobility and Collaborations Centre (IMCC), Dr. Muhizam Mustafa; Director of Research and Creativity Management Office (RCMO), Professor Dr. Lee Keat Teong and Deputy Registrar (Academic and International), Hj. Ramli Osman along with other USM officials.
