USM WOMEN IN SCIENCE SHARED ON ACHIEVING SUCCESS IN CAREER PATHWAYS
PENANG, 24 November 2017 – A programme was held at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) recently to gain further insights from the USM recipients of the 2016 and 2017 L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Fellowship awards.
Moderated by the Director of USM CDAE (Centre for Development of Academic Excellence & Student Development), Professor Dr. Abdul Karim Alias, the Teaching and Learning Excellence Seminar Series presented a session with Dr. Fatehah Mohd Omar from the School of Civil Engineering, who talked on “Nanoparticles in the Environment as New Emerging Contaminants”; Associate Professor Dr. Teh Su Yean from the School of Mathematical Sciences sharing on “Unifying STEM Towards Sustainable Management of Our Coastal Resources”; and Dr. Jasy Liew Suet Yan from the School of Computer Sciences who shared on “Discovering Passion in Building Emotion-Sensitive Computers”.
The programme highlighted the success of these young women in their respective fields and in becoming a Professor in Science.
The recipients from USM received two out of the three awarded in 2016 and 2017, and which saw 208 local female researchers vying for the award since it was established.
