MAXIMISING PLANT GROWTH THROUGH LIGHT MANIPULATION
BUKIT JAMBUL, PENANG, 6 November 2017 - Associate Professor Dr. S. Sreeramanan from the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) School of Biological Sciences presented his project during the pitching session at Sains@USM held recently.
His project was on the manipulation of light sources for maximising plant growth, which according to him would result in optimised growth in a cost-effective manner, as energy usage would also be minimised through the use of LEDs (Light-Emitting Diodes).
The pitching session was held during the USM-Industrial Collaborations Projects session in the presence of the Minister of Higher Education Malaysia, the Hon. Dato' Seri Idris Jusoh.
Sreeramanan explained that the method demonstrated by his project would result in cost savings and optimised plant growth in the present environment.
Earlier, Idris chaired the University-Industry Dialogue session at SETIA Spice Convention Centre in Penang, together with more than 150 participants from the education, industry, government agencies and various stakeholders.
He strongly emphasised that the industry and the academia are one, and both need to collaborate with each other.
