4 USM STUDENTS IN LAOS FOR YSS VOLUNTEERS PROGRAMME
USM, PENANG, 16 Sept 2017 – 4 Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) students are taking part in the MoES Student Volunteers Foundation (YSS) programme in Laos PDR.
Joining other volunteers on location at Sangthong Province in Vientiane, the 4 students - Muhd Nadzmi bin Abd Rahim in Ban Thanasa; Hajeriah Bosman and Muhd Zulafkar bin Zailani in Ban Pakton; and Nur Atikah binti Fauzi in Ban Sampana - will be involved in the programme which will run from 15-27 September 2017.
A total of 50 volunteers are involved in the programme, coming from the public and private higher educational institutions (IPTA/IPTS), community colleges and teacher training institutes, with the aim of developing global volunteer leaders.
The opening ceremony of the programme was officiated by the Malaysian envoy in Laos PDR, HE Mohd Aini Atan, together with the Vice-President of NUoL, HE Madame Somchanh Bounphanmy. Also present was the Chairperson of YSS, Dato' Zuraidah Atan.
The Student Volunteers Foundation (YSS) was launched in 2012 as an entity fully owned by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and which upholds the vision of advancing Malaysia as a hub for student volunteers and in grooming global student volunteer icons.
YSS is steadfast in fulfilling its mission to encourage, educate and nurture students from higher educational institutions for the promotion of world peace and in instilling a sense of communal togetherness within and outside the country.
