LOCAL CHAPTER OF NEUROLOGICAL SOCIETY ESTABLISHED TO ENHANCE TALENTS OF LOCAL EXPERTS
19 May 2017 - The Walter Dandy Neurosurgical Society Malaysian Chapter made history when it was launched recently at Hospital Kuala Lumpur. The renowned neurosurgeon, Professor Saleem Abdulrauf, the President of the Walter Dandy Neurological Society was present for the launching.
The Malaysian Chapter started out from the Neuroscience Department of the Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM), located at the USM Health Campus in Kelantan. Two other societies have had their origins from the Department too, namely the Neurosurgical Association of Malaysia and the Society for Neuroscience USA, Kelantan Chapter.
What started as a society for neurosurgeons in 2011 in Missouri, USA has now expanded globally with members from 23 different countries, with Malaysia being one of its members.
Named after one of the premier fathers of operative neurosurgery, Walter E. Dandy, the Walter E. Dandy Neurosurgical Society is now a global society for Operative Neurosurgery, dedicated towards improving patient outcomes in neurosurgery by enhancing neurosurgical education, training curriculum, and certification mechanism for neurosurgeons worldwide.
The Malaysian Chapter is established in collaboration with the national neurosurgical organisations in the country, and similarly in other member countries. Each Chapter will organise educational forums for the training of the residents in the respective countries.
The President of the Malaysian Chapter is USM Senior Lecturer Associate Professor Dr. Abdul Rahman Izaini Ghani. He is assisted by four other Exco members comprising neurosurgeons from HUSM, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Hospital Sungai Buloh and Hospital Johor Bharu.
