USM STUDENT, ALUMNI REPRESENT MALAYSIA AT PHILIPPINES REGIONAL MEET
PENANG, 5 April 2017 - Siti Zurianah Ismail, a Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) graduate student in Islamic Finance and Ameera Nadia Shafiee, a 2013 USM alumna have been selected to represent the Society for the Development of Human Resources for Rural Areas (DHRRA) Malaysia at the DHRRA ASEAN conference in the regional Training of Trainers (TOT) Module 2 programme in Cebu, Philippines recently.
The Conference on Regional Cooperation to Empower Rural Development Organisations ASEAN (ReCoERDO) organised by DHRRA ASEAN was aimed at enhancing the competencies of participants in the planning and expansion of projects which are proposed for social development, based on the needs of the womenfolk, youth and the rural communities.
The programme, which saw the participation of representatives from ASEAN nations, among others serves as a platform to discuss best practices, activities, ideas and the hope of organising other programmes which could empower the low-income households (B40).
Both Siti Zurianah, who was the recipient of the Student Volunteer Award from the Ministry of Higher Education and now serves as a Fellow at the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Malaysia, and Ameera Nadia who is currently a Penang Youth Parliament member, will be in the Philippines until 9th April.
