USM ESTABLISHING FURTHER COLLABORATIONS WITH UL FRANCE
KUALA LUMPUR, 28 March 2017 – Several new collaborations were recently established between Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Universite de Lorraine (UL), France following the 4th USM-UL Colloquium held last January.
USM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Dato’ Dr. Muhamad Jantan said, this collaboration was first formalised 18 years ago with the School of Chemical Sciences and now it has been extended to other academic schools like the School of Biological Sciences.
“Hence, it is timely that the MoA between USM and UL is renewed and signed, to include new and future areas with research potential such as Medical and Biological Sciences, including Pharmaceutical and Dental Sciences; Chemistry and Chemical Engineering; Industrial Technologies; Material Sciences and Engineering; Metallurgy; Mineral Resources Engineering; Environmental Sciences and Engineering,” he added.
“I am confident that through our efforts and commitment, we will be able to achieve more and to be able to continue to develop even stronger relationship and friendship towards a successful implementation of this MoA."
The UL Vice-President for Partnership and International Affairs, Professor Karl Tombre said, it is a great pleasure to continue in supporting other higher education institutions and to produce students of high quality.
“It is also part of UL’s strategy to forged strategic partnership with renowned universities to develop research collaborations at the global level,” he added.
The signing ceremony for the Higher Education Agreements today was held in conjunction with the French President, François Hollande visit to Malaysia.
Two Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) signed which are between Campus France, Chamber of Commerce and Industry France Malaysia and the Embassy of France in Malaysia and between USM and UL.
Also present were the Dean, USM School of Chemical Sciences, Professor Dr. Afidah Abdul Rahim and the French Counsellor for Co-operation and Cultural Affairs, Jean-Pierre Galland.
