USM PURSUING FURTHER COLLABORATIONS WITH AN ALLIANCE OF 4 UNIVERSITIES (A-4U) FROM SPAIN
USM, PENANG, 1 March 2017 - Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr. Asma Ismail today welcomed a courtesy visit to USM from the delegates of Institutional of A-4U (Alliance of 4 Spanish Universities) at the Chancellory Conference Room, Chancellory Building, here.
The Spanish group comprised of the Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and International Relations, Universidad Pompeu Fabra de Barcelona, Professor Dr. María Isabel Valverde; Vice-Rector for International Relations, Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, Professor Dr. Màrius Martínez; Deputy Vice-Chancellor of International Relations Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Professor Dr. Matilde Sánchez; Rector’s Delegate for Internationalization Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Professor Dr. Irene Martín and International Relations Coordinator at the Alianza 4 Universidades, Spain, Ms. Elena Acosta.
The discussion mainly focused on the possibility of having cooperation and collaboration between both parties on matters relating to academics and research.
Asma took the opportunity to present the Malaysian higher education scenario and shared the profile of USM with the visitors.
She also mentioned the types of services that can be offered by USM, such as research and academics programme, mobility programme, exchange programme for students, internship opportunities at our research park and centres of excellence, networks with strategic business partners in Penang or at our private campus in India, pursuing English Studies and dual/joint degree programmes.
Meanwhile, Professor Dr. María Isabel Valverde gave her opening remarks and looked at collaborations that can be possibly linked with USM.
The A-4U delegates also stated that this short discussion was meant to inquire on any possible cooperation in relation to joint internationalisation activities by engaging leading universities such as USM, to explore possibilities in research and development areas and to promote English-taught academics programmes, thus making it possible for the signing of a common agreement with A-4U.
Also present at the discussion were the USM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Dato’ Dr. Muhamad Jantan; Director, International Collaborations Centre, Professor Dr. Lee Keat Teong; Director, USM International Mobility & Career Centre (USM-IMCC), Dr. Muhizam Mustafa; respective Deans, Deputy Deans, Directors and Principal Officers of USM.
