KUALA LUMPUR, 7 April 2015 - The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Professor Dato' Dr. Omar Osman welcomed the implementation of the new education blueprint or Pelan Pembangunan Pendidikan Malaysia (Pendidikan Tingg)  (PPPM PT) which was launched today by Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Sri Mohd. Najib Tun Abdul Razak.

Omar, who attended the launching ceremony in Kuala lumpur today described the PPPM PT as a comprehensive and holistic plan which would complement the present education plan in its objective to enhance accessibility, equity and quality of education for the future of the country.

He added that with its focus on the development of future talent based upon values, knowledge and skills in line with the nation’s aspirations, PPPM PT promises a  brilliant future for young Malaysians.

“PPPM PT is also in line with strategies to reduce the income gap through its focus on producing graduates with high technical skills and its aspirations for a national platform that supports lifelong learning as well as its proposed open education system to complete the achievements and output of higher education,” Omar elaborated.

The USM Vice-Chancellor also expressed his hope that local institutions of higher learning such as the five research universities would be able to transform and adapt to the aspirations of the new education blueprint by exercising their autonomy to produce future talents with strong values geared towards national development.

PPPM PT was officially launched today in a ceremony which was also attended by the Deputy Prime Minister who is also the Education Minister, Tan Sri Hj Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin as well as Education Minister II Dato' Seri Idris Jusoh, cabinet ministers and more than 2,500 members of the higher educational fraternity. - Translation: Dr Nurul Farhana Low Abdullah/Text: Mohamad Abdullah
