USM TO INTRODUCE SPECIAL SCHEME TO RETAIN ACADEMIC TALENT
USM, PENANG, 6 January 2017 - The USM Registrar, Professor Dato' Dr. Abd Aziz Tajuddin has provided the details on the effort by Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) to introduce a special scheme for retaining its academic talents who have retired to ensure that there is continuity in its knowledge circle.
In his briefing on Administrative Developments at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) which was attended by more than100 people comprising Deans, Directors and university administrators here, he said that, the Flexible Scheme for Retired Scholars (FSRS) is aimed at providing an opportunity for academicians especially those holding the position of Professors to be reappointed, based on the track records in teaching, research, professional practices and leadership.
"The Key Performance Indicators (KPI/KIP) would be set by the centres responsible (PTJ) and the appointment would be for a one-year term," he said.
The USM Registrar also mentioned on the implementation of the USM Exit Policy which would begin this year involving the permanent staff, and emphasising on the performance achieved in the Annual Performance Assessment Report (LPP).
"All staff members are required to achieve a performance level of more than 60% to avoid any action from being taken based on this policy," he said.
Apart from that, the Continuous Professional Development System (MyCPD) would be improved upon, and the Human Capital Management System (HCMS) would be upgraded to a newer version, that is version three which would also covers the four tracks promotion of academic staff as proposed in the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2015-2025 (Higher Education).
USM currently has 10,000 staff members in all its campuses.
Also present at the briefing were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Professor Dato' Dr. Ahmad Shukri Mustapa Kamal and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Network), Professor Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed.
