NEED TO BE BOLD IN TRANSFORMING HIGHER EDUCATION
NILAI, NEGERI SEMBILAN, 13 December 2016 – The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Professor Datuk Dr. Asma Ismail said that in order to transform higher education, we have to be bold in making changes, with ‘bold’ being the key term for change.
"Change here relates to progress and fulfilling the current needs of the students, moving alongside advances in technology and also in facing the challenges of the global economy," added Asma.
"The current and future scenarios in higher education demand for education to be flexible, in having multi-entries, multi-exits, multi-disciplines and multi-degrees, as we mould our students to become ‘glocal’, which is to ‘Think Globally, Act Locally’.
She said this when presenting on the topic 'Creativity and Innovativeness as a Quality in Leadership' at the Convention for Young Administrators of ASEAN Higher Education Institutions (YAS 2016) here today.
YAS 2016 gathers more than 200 participants among the administrators from public and private universities, local and abroad, including those from Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam.
The two-day convention is organised by the Malaysian Public Universities Training Committee with the cooperation of the Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT).
