USM LECTURER RECEIVES INTERNATIONAL AWARD IN EDUCATION
KUBANG KERIAN, 7 December 2016 – A lecturer from the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Health Campus has made the university proud by winning an international award on the use of effective teaching methodologies to facilitate students’ learning.
Dr. Muhammad Saiful Bahri Yusoff, who heads the Medical Education Department at the USM School of Medical Sciences (PPSP), was selected as the award winner for the Reimagine Education category of “Teaching Delivery”, organised by the Wharton-SEI Center for Advance Studies in Management, University of Pennsylvania.
Saiful Bahri received the award for one of his research innovations entitled “Promoting Resilience and Preventing Burnout in Medical Students through the DEAL-Based Practice.”
According to Saiful Bahri, the selection process for the Reimagine Education Award requires undergoing a number of preliminary phases before being shortlisted into the award nominations.
“Candidates need to clear three stages; in the first stage the research outcome would be evaluated by 100 PhD candidates in the field of education, while phase two would require the research outcome to be further evaluated by 40 academicians and only 140 innovations would make it into phase three, where the evaluations would be done by 40 elite panellists comprising of prominent world industry players such as IBM, Google and Microsoft,” he explained.
He further said that, the competition was aimed at identifying the most successful participants who have created an initiative on transformative education, and have assisted the concerned bodies in deciding on the direction of education in the future, while creating opportunities for cooperation in terms of investment and networking.
“This award was intended as a form of recognition to the recipients from various fields who have made an impact and contributed to the socio-economy including the environment, education, innovation, mankind and also the economy,” explained Saiful.
“I am truly grateful for this recognition, and it would certainly spur me to pursue excellence further and contribute more to this beloved university,” he said.
