USM PRO-CHANCELLOR ENCOURAGES GREATER INVOLVEMENT BY ALUMNI IN SOCIETY
USM, PENANG, 28 October 2016 - The Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Tan Sri Datuk Mustafa Mansur is urging members of the USM Alumni to play greater roles in society and to be involved in volunteerism and community service activities.
"Work towards involvement in volunteerism and in community service projects together, such as in providing free tuition classes, medical checkups for the community, establishing a community library, teaching or tutoring on skills in ICT, English, Mathematics and Science," said Mustafa in his speech during the Eighth Session of the USM 54th Convocation Ceremony recently.
"What is more important would be, the alumni needs to uphold the good name of the university and to always be proud of the USM name wherever you may be."
"I am also urging the graduands to build networks for cooperation among the alumni members, and to frequently meet to bring closer ties with each other," added Mustafa who also presided the Sixth and Seventh Sessions of the Convocation Ceremony, which was held from 24-27 October at the Dewan Tuanku Syed Putra (DTSP) here.
To date, USM has graduating students in the alumni numbering to 133,235 undergraduates and 26,199 postgraduates since the university was established in 1969.
In the Eighth Session which marked the end of the 54th Convocation Ceremony, some 742 graduates in Applied Sciences, Science (Housing, Building and Planning), Architecture, Technology and Diploma in Nursing received their scrolls.
