USM, PENANG, 7 April 2016 - Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) will hold an open day programme for two days, 9 – 10 April 2016 at Dewan Utama Pelajar (DUP), Main Campus in Penang and at Dewan Utama, Health Campus, Kubang Kerian, Kelantan from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

USM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr. Omar Osman said, the open day themed ‘Pakat Mai Masuk USM’ is to enable students to apply directly to the university, as there are 71 programmes at undergraduate level and more than 200 programmes (Coursework, Mixed Mode and Research Mode) at postgraduate (Masters and PhD) level being offered.

“The main aim of the open day is to give opportunity for more people to join the university and broaden their knowledge in various fields, especially in study programmes that are recognised as among the best in the global ranking released recently.

“In the QS World University Ranking by Subject 2016, 22 programmes have been placed within the 200-300 best programmes of studies in the world. Out of these programmes, 9 have been ranked in the top 100 with one programme achieved top 50 among other world renowned universities,” he said.

He added that, “this goes to show that our academic programmes are on par with those offered by other reputable universities and are able to produce graduates that are competitive and highly sought after in the working world.”

“We hope that through this open day programme, parents, students, teachers and school counsellors can find out more about the programmes available from the respective schools and research centres representatives under one roof,” added Omar.

Apart from obtaining information on admission to USM, walk-in visitors would also be briefed on how to apply through online and incentives available for best students.

Applications for certain distance learning programmes which were closed earlier will be reopened in conjunction with the open day.

There will also be a special briefing session for school counsellors and parents, as well as free health screening and blood donation activity, stalls run by students under the university’s entrepreneurship and volunteerism programmes, and dental check-up on IPPT dental mobile bus.
