USM, PENANG, 2 April 2016 – The ASEAN Cultural Music Festival (ACMF) 2016 was held recently at the Dewan Budaya, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and was officiated by the USM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Network) Professor Dato’ Dr. See Ching Mey.
Organised by Minden Height Primary School Penang, the programme was also supported by the Penang District Education Office (North-east) together with USM, and was attended by officials from the Penang District Education Office (North-east), Chairperson and members of the Board of Directors from 6 high-performance schools, and joined by the delegates from Thailand and Indonesia.
According to See Ching Mey, USM is always ready to provide the expertise to society, and communities throughout the country as well as globally in ensuring the success of such a programme.
“I hope the children and teachers will have the opportunity to build stronger relationships and friendship that would provide more room for collaborative learning opportunities,” she said, representing the USM Vice-Chancellor.
She added that the cooperation and involvement in a programme such as this by the younger generations is truly welcomed, as they would be the one to uphold the name of Malaysia in the future and which needs to be nurtured from now.
ACMF serves as a platform for ASEAN school children to enrich themselves with cross-cultural knowledge and to better understand and appreciate the similarities, differences and cultural diversities towards a peaceful Southeast Asian community.
The event brought together 800 participants of different ethnicities, each sharing talents and skills through dances, musical performances, oratory presentations and others of such nature.
