CONTINUE TO STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE AS QS RANKING SOARS, USM VC URGES
USM, PENANG, 24 March 2016 - The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject 2016 indicated that Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has risen in performance and the USM Chemical Engineering programme is listed among the top 50 in the world (ranked at 46).
The USM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr. Omar Osman said, USM has risen in its overall performance in which from among more than its 40 academic programmes, 39 programmes have been evaluated, 22 programmes are positioned at the top 200-300 in the world, nine in the top 100 and one programme ranked 46th.
Omar said that, USM is a comprehensive university based on science and technology, in which various subjects have been evaluated and with many of its courses being able to be among the world’s best.
He said that, USM is also aware that its programmes such as medical, electrical and mechanical engineering, computer science, sciences, architecture, pharmacy, and education among others have also achieved excellence in the QS rankings.
“USM would strive to improve its performance resulting from the determination and hard work from all quarters, more so the academicians from the various academic schools as well as the USM students.”
“I am also urging all quarters to continue ensuring that USM would soar and raise the reputation of this tower of knowledge, and at the same time producing high-impact publications which would raise its standing at the world stage,’’ he said.
He added that, USM is already among the world’s best and would need to collectively persevere to emerge as the best in all areas.
Apart from that, Omar also conveyed his appreciation on the commitment of the USM community in striving for excellence and in realising the ambition to become a university of global repute.
