USM, PENANG, 16 March 2016 – The status of being an APEX university as well as the stunning landscape of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) have attracted Li Yong, 21, from China to pursue his Bachelor’s degree in USM, Penang.

Li is currently doing his Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in English for Professionals programme at the School of Languages, Literacies and Translation.

According to Li, he made up his mind to pursue his studies in USM as it is the only university having the APEX status in Malaysia at the moment.

“Studying in USM is not merely an academic experience, but also an opportunity for me to appreciate the multicultural society in Malaysia,” said Li.

Li expressed his strong interest in Bahasa Malaysia as the language could mirror the culture of Malaysia vividly, and by learning Bahasa Malaysia, he could appreciate the Malaysian society more.

As a foreign student who is keen on learning the national language, the support from lecturers in USM have helped Li to manage the difficulties during his journey towards having a better understanding of Bahasa Malaysia and the local culture.

“They provided plenty of assistance by suggesting to me better ways of studying and living in Malaysia,” said Li. Meanwhile, the strategic location of USM offered him opportunities to savour the wonderful dishes and visit the heritage sites in Penang.

Added Li further, USM offers a platform for him to explore the wonders of the world, and that would be the stepping stone to achieve his dream of becoming a lecturer in the future.
