PENANG, January 2016 – The School of Industrial Technology, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) will be organising a 2-day workshop on Response Surface Methodology in Bioprocessing on the 2^nd and 3^rd of February 2016 (Tuesday and Wednesday), at the Computer Lab (Lab 114, Level 1), School of Industrial Technology, USM, Penang.

Response Surface Methodology (RSM) is a collection of mathematical and statistical techniques based on the fit of a polynomial equation to the experimental data, which must describe the behaviour of a data set with the objective of making statistical previsions.

It can be well applied when a response or a set of responses of interest are influenced by several variables.

This workshop aims to cover the following goals that are to optimise an underlying process and look for the factor level combinations that give us the maximum yield and minimum costs, and in some cases, this approach can be used to hit a target or aim to match some given specifications.The 2-day programme will cover Introduction to Optimisation in Bioprocess Technology, Response Surface Methodology-Overview, Practical on Optimisation (Design Expert), Screening (Group activity), Case study and Discussion.

Participants are requested to bring their own laptop to this workshop and the registration fees is RM400.00 per person.

The workshop will be facilitated by a Senior Lecturer for Bioprocess Technology Division, School of Industrial Technology, USM, Dr. Tan Joo Shun.
