USM, SILTERRA SIGNS AGREEMENT IN MICROELECTRONICS INDUSTRY
PENANG, 11 January 2015 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) today signed a collaboration agreement (CA) withSilterra Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. for the access to the Multi Project Wafer (MPW) in completing the microelectronics ecosystem at the university which comprised of designing, confirmation, fabrication, testing and measuring as well as packaging.
MPW would also allow researchers and students, especially those doing their advanced studies, to further practice on the fabrication of integrated electronics design at reduced costs, besides providing opportunities in establishing startup companies involved in the designing of electronic products which could contribute to the economy of the country.
The collaboration agreement was signed by the Acting USM Vice-Chancellor Professor Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Shukri Mustapa Kamal and the Chief Executive Officer of Silterra Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. Firdaus Abdullah, initiated through efforts of the USM Collaborative Microelectronics Design Excellence Centre (CEDEC) which is responsible for the organisation and to provide support for activities concerning microelectronics design to further strengthen research excellence in this area.
