PUTRAJAYA, 1 December 2015 – The Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) recognises a broad range of activities to support mutually beneficial collaboration between universities, industries and communities (government agencies/non-governmental organisations/public sector).

It is a platform for the exchange of tangible and intangible intellectual property, expertise, learning and skills between the academia, industry and the community in various forms of interactions such as consultancy, education, training, graduate development, conferences, sharing of physical facilities and student placement.

This was outlined by Chairman of the CAP Knowledge Transfer Programme, Professor Dato' Dr. Omar Osman during his welcoming speech presentation at the International Conference on Knowledge Transfer held at Marriott Hotel Putrajaya, Malaysia.

"The objective of KTP is to recognise and promote the transfer of knowledge via the exchange of creative and innovative ideas, research findings, experiences and skills between universities, industries, government agencies and the wider community while the goal is to enable the development and improvement on the quality of products, services and policies to be shared for mutual benefits between the stakeholders which are the academia, industry, community and the graduate/postgraduate interns," he said.

Omar added, the Key Result Areas (KRA) for this KTP which have been identified are in the fields of energy security, water security, transportation and urbanization, biodiversity, cyber security, environment and climate change, food security, medical and healthcare, plantation crop and commodities, education, economy, and green technology.

The top three KTP projects from a total number of 460 projects according to these 14 KRA from rolling 1 until 5 are placed under economy (175), followed by green technology (105) and education (85) and so on.

Under the KTP Ecosystem, the total number for project completion is 210, number of industries involved are 278, number of communities is 212, academia is 1610 and graduate interns are 856.

"In the end, the Key Performance Index (KPI) that we are going to achieve are numbers of academics involved, industry/community partners and collaboration, numbers of products commercialized, numbers of technology skill sets of process transferred, number of interns, graduates, trainees, the increase in income/revenue of industry/community, capacity of stakeholders and development case studies of successful projects," Omar emphasised.

The outcome that KTP wanted to gain would be on human capacity-building, economic and industrial growth, industry knowledge enhancement, increase in graduate employability and placement, increase in productivity and competitiveness of stakeholders, a clear agenda of future Science and Technology investment, green technology recommendation, enhancement of SMEs, KTP entrepreneurial platform, Research and Development (R&D) to be strengthened and lastly, the replication of successful projects by higher agencies to ensure the sustainability of the engagement.

This international conference starts from 1st to 3rd December 2015 and is organised by the KTP Secretariat with the cooperation of the Programme Management Office (PMO), Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia.
