LGU CHAIRMAN, VICE-CHANCELLOR EXTEND CONGRATULATIONS TO 5 TRSM RECIPIENTS
PENANG, 31 October 2015 – The Chairman of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Board of Governors, Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Zulkefli A. Hassan and the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato' Dr. Omar Osman congratulated the five USM scientists who were acknowledged as the Top Research Scientists Malaysia (TRSM) by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) today.
The five are Professor Dr. Othman Sulaiman, Professor Dr. Rokiah Hashim and Professor Ir. Dr. Mohd Omar Ab. Kadir from the School of Industrial Technology, Professor Dr. Mohamed Azmi Ahmad Hassali from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Professor Dr. Srimala Sreekantan from the School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering.
To date, 26 USM research scientists have been recognised in the TRSM.
"My hearty congratulations to all winners from USM of the national top scientist awards in their respective fields. This success will certainly motivate them to attain further success," said Zulkefli.
He added that at the same time, this achievement would spur other scientists to intensify research in their respective research areas. He also extended his congratulations to USM on the success.
Meanwhile Vice-Chancellor Omar expressed USM’s pride at the success of its scientists and hoped that more researchers will participate in the TRSM in future.
He added that this success is a meaningful recognition to the winners and also to USM, and it will certainly create an impact on research and innovation efforts, leading to more products and designs for academic development and commercialisation in the future.
"USM will continue to create a conducive environment for the development of research and innovation in the future, particularly in encouraging more young scientists and researchers to continue in these efforts," said Omar.
