USM VICE-CHANCELLOR RECEIVES A VISIT FROM MADINAH IMAM

PENANG, July 2015 – The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Professor Dato' Dr. Omar Osman recently received a visit from the imam of a mosque in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, Syaikh Jam'an Al-‘Asiri who was specially invited to lead the tarawih prayers at Masjid Al-Malik Khalid USM last Ramadhan.

Omar said, he was very pleased to have the presence of the imam at USM and hoped that this cooperation will continue in the future.

The Vice-Chancellor mentions of his plans to go to Madinah on official matters later at the end of the year or early next year.

During a brief meeting of 15 minutes, Syaikh Jam’an Al-‘Asiri expressed his gratitude to USM for inviting him to Malaysia and he regarded his time being at USM as a wonderful lifetime experience.

"I am impressed with USM and happy to be in Malaysia even though it was only for a short moment and I look forward to come back if I am given the opportunity, as the people here are very warm and friendly," said Syaikh Jam’an Al-‘Asiri who is also an Officer of Islamic Affairs in Madinah.

Syaikh Jam'an Al-'Asiri who had arrived a day before Ramadhan and will be returning to his country on Saturday, July 25 said he was also grateful in being able to adjust himself to the new environment in Malaysia and was touched by the wonderful treatment and harmonious society here.

Also present was the Officer of Islamic Affairs of USM Islamic Centre, Ustaz Zayd Zhari.
