USM SUPER BIKERS HELP PROMOTE USM FOUNDATION TO THE PUBLIC
PENANG, July 2015 – In an effort to introduce and promote the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Foundation to the public, various programmes have been lined up by the USM Super Bikers group to assist in raising sponsorships, and allowing for more community-university engagement programmes to be carried out.
This was shared by the President of the USM Super Bikers Club, Associate Professor Dr. Hassim Mat who lectures at the USM School of Housing, Building and Planning (PPPBP) when met during the ‘Breaking-of-fast Together with the Orphans from Rumah Anak Yatim Nasyiatul Aisyah’ programme at the Exhibition Area (Drum) of PPPBP, here recently.
Commenting further, Hassim hoped that the programmes to be outlined would be able to help in promoting the USM Foundation more to the public.
Meanwhile, the founder of Rumah Anak Yatim Nasyiatul Aisyah, Ustazah Rohani Hussainsa said, she and those at the orphanage expressed their deep gratitude to all at the Staff Club of PPPBP USM and PPPBP, which had assisted them with provisions for the orphans for the past 13 years.
Explained Rohani, the PPPBP club members would provide assistance in the form of powdered milk and cocoa beverages almost every month, as well as other basic necessities to the orphanage.
“Alhamdulillah, we are truly grateful and full of joy with the organisation of this breaking-of-fast programme, and may all the efforts be showered by the blessings of ALLAH SWT,” she said.
A resident of Rumah Nasyiatul Aisyah, Nur Aisyah Mohd Azhar, 14, said, she was truly happy with the programme organised by PPPBP on that day, and said that the “duit raya” (money for Hari Raya) given to her would go towards the purchase of new shoes.
“Usually, it is my mother who would accompany me and my younger siblings to go and buy new clothes, after I lost my father a few years ago," said the student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Seri Balik Pulau.
A Form One student of SMK Seri Balik Pulau, Nurul Fatin Najiha Anuar said the “duit raya” she received would be put to good use, as well as conveying her thanks to those at PPPBP for the gifts.
The community project, which had started since 2003, was carried out with a difference this year, when the orphans were escorted by the USM Super Bikers group from Taman Pekaka to PPPBP USM.
Not only were they treated with a feast for “berbuka puasa” (breaking-of-fast), the group of 30 children and the caretaker of the orphanage were also provided with “duit raya” and hampers given by the Vice-Chancellor of USM, Professor Dato’ Dr. Omar Osman.
Others who attended were the Dean of PPPBP, Professor Dr. Aldrin Abdullah, the Deputy Deans and the staff of PPPBP.
