USM APPRECIATES VISIT OF HEALTH MINISTER TO HUSM
KOTA BHARU, 31 December 2014 - Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) highly appreciated the visit of the Minister of Health Malaysia, Datuk Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam to the Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM) yesterday.
USM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr. Omar Osman said the visit meant a lot to USM.
During the visit, the Vice-Chancellor and the Director of HUSM Dato' Dr. Zaidun Kamari briefed the Minister of Health on HUSM operations especially in providing services to patients as HUSM is the only hospital left in flood-ravaged Kelantan that is fully functioning and able to treat critical medical cases, especially those dependent on life-support systems and other medical equipment.
"We have conveyed the need for additional medical doctors, nurses and paramedics to help manage the transition phase of the post-flood while waiting for the main government hospital and district hospitals in the state to be fully operational again," said Omar.
He added that this is expected to take at least another two weeks.
At the moment, the staff at HUSM are doing their level best to shoulder on these responsibilities under the most difficult circumstances.
As such, said Omar, the Minister of Health’s visit to the hospital had certainly inspire, encourage and motivate all parties involved in the university to continue with their efforts.
"I wish to express my deepest appreciation to the Minister and Ministry of Health for the help, support and cooperation given," said the Vice-Chancellor.
