USM VOLUNTEERS GOTONG ROYONG TO BEAUTIFY LANDSCAPE IN CAMPUS
PENANG, 24 February 2013 – Fifty USM volunteers and 20 staff took part in a collaborative programme to beautify the landscape around the campus. In this programme, more than 30 trees along the road from the junction of Residence Aman Damai to the entrance near the USM Stadium had their branches pruned and trimmed so that these trees looked neater and more beautiful.
Garbage were also collected during the gotong royong which totalled three tons. Some of the students gathered twigs and branches that were pruned from trees for landscaping purposes at the hostels.
All volunteers are from the residents of Desasiswa Aman, Damai and Tekun, Volunteer Corps members, and Students’ Representative Council members. A total of 15 volunteers also went to Anjung Jannatun, the official home of the Vice-Chancellor to trim and prune the trees there.
Also present were the Desasiswa Tekun warden, Dr Nazarudin Zainun; the Desasiswa Aman Damai warden, En. Nazru Haji Ismail; and the Principal Assistant Registrar, Students Affairs and Development Division, En. Mansur Abdullah. - Text: Rafizah Nor Md Zain/Photo: Mohamad Danial Shahri/Translation: Yong Check Yoon
