NATIONAL HEROES ASSISTANCE FUND LAUNCHED

PENANG, 8 March 2013 – A Special National Heroes Assistance Fund for Malaysian security forces killed in Lahad Datu, Sabah was recently launched at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

The fund is open to the campus community and the public who wish to make a donation to ease the burden of the family members of our national heroes.

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Omar Osman launched the fund for that purpose.

According to Omar, USM will fully support what the government is doing to defend the sovereignty of the motherland.

“The USM community always prays for the safety and security of our country here and will do whatever is appropriate to help the defenders of the country,” he says during a special prayer and Yasin reading session at Masjid Al-Malik Khalid, Universiti Sains Malaysia, yesterday.

Moreover, he urged the campus community, especially students, to use the bloodied incident in Lahad Datu as a constant reminder to always love peace.

At the event, Penang police chief representative, Supt. Mohammad Zain Rasit, Penang Branch Social Extremist Intelligence Staff Officer, was present to brief on the current national security situation and developments in Lahad Datu, Sabah.

The ceremony started with Maghrib prayer, Yassin readings, Isyak prayers, followed by solat hajat (special prayers) and a talk.
