USM SAD OVER LOSS OF ALUMNI AND NATIONAL HERO

PENANG, 5 March 2013 - Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) expressed sadness and grieved over the loss of their alumnus, Supt. Ibrahim Lebar, a graduate in Bachelor of Social Sciences of 1998, who died in the Lahad Datu, Sabah, incident yesterday.

“We are proud of the spirit of sacrifice of Ibraham and other national heroes in defending the homeland. Their willingness to sacrifice their lives should be an example and encouragement to us all," said Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato 'Omar Osman.

He added that the university fully supported any efforts by the security forces in dealing with this tragedy. Prayers were held for all the heroes who fell as martyrs while defending the sovereignty of the country. A donation is also being collected to help the families of those who died defending the country.

Meanwhile, the USM Student Representative Council (MPPUSM) president, Muhammad ‘Ammar Abdul Aziz described the incident that claimed the lives of the nation's heroes as very heartbreaking to the students and Malaysians.

"We are deeply saddened by the deaths of our national heroes who patriotically defended the sovereignty of our country and their ultimate sacrifice should be appreciated by all," said Muhammad ‘Ammar.

He added that USM students are confident and believe in the ability of our national security forces to prevent any intrusion or invasion by those who are always looking for opportunities to subvert the national security.

In a statement, Muhammad ‘Ammar who also condemned the aggression and acts of violence committed by those involved, asserted that USM students are united and are confident of the ability of the national security forces in defending our beloved homeland and as a Malaysian citizen, we need to pray for peace and prosperity of Malaysia.
