PENANG, 2 May 2013 – Students of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) were urged to join extra-curricular activities and appreciate the Curriculum Day theme for the 2012/2013 session recently.

This time the theme is “Curriculum Catalyses Universalism of Sustainability” which means that extra-curricular activities emphasises the achievement of a comprehensive sustainability and also universality to enable the curriculum to support a sustainable future.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Prof. Adnan Hussein, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Students Affairs and Development Division.

“The students participated in various extra-curricular activities related to soft skills, physical and critical thinking,” said Adnan.

According to him, all students should have the criteria mentioned to use for their future career. Co-curricular activities can also foster cooperation and closer fraternal relationship among students and their instructors.

“I would recommend all students who participated in co-curricular activities to attract others to jointly contribute in programmes organised either at the university or the hostel levels. Such programmes will not only constitute marks in MyCSD but even give good exposure and benefits for future use.

According to Lim Zheng Yi, Director of Co-Curriculum Day Project, a programme such as this will lead to a positive transformation and to benefit the students themselves. Co-curricular activities also help students to develop the best identity.

Also present were Prof. Ahmad Shukri Mustapa Kamal, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic and International Affairs, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Tajuddin Othman, Director of Centre for Co-Curricular Programmes.

After the opening ceremony, all the distinguished guests visited the uniformed body and cultural exhibitions. Co-Curriculum Day for the 2012/2013 session culminated with the Presentation Night by Uniformed and Cultural Bodies featuring traditional dances, Gayung Tempur, choir and silent marching. - Text: Rafizah Nor Md Zain/Photo: Mohd Fairus Md Isa/Translation: Yong Check Yoon
