MAKE READING A HABIT
PENGKALAN HULU, 19 May 2013 - "An advanced community that dominates various fields of knowledge is made up of people who love to read," said Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Vice-Chancellor’s wife, Datin Noraizan Jamaluddin.
USM Women's Affairs (HELWA) patron addressed this to the children at Abu Nur Residence when she officiated the opening of the Abu Nur Resource Centre in Abu Nur Residence, Pengkalan Hulu recently.
Noraizan urged the children who stay there to make reading as a continuous and positive way of life to be successful in the future.
He added that the USM Islamic Centre HELWA committee has taken a good initiative to help to improve the Resource Centre in Abu Nur Residence in providing a space for comfortable learning and reading as well as to make it easier for the children here to access reading materials and references that are complete and current.
The committee also organised a gotong-royong and a tree planting programme in conjunction with the opening ceremony, involving 50 female residents, ranging from 7 to 17 years-old, comprising orphans, children of extremely poor families, and underprivileged children.
Also present was Dr. Nurulain Abdullah Bayanuddin, USM Wellness Centre Director and the USM Islamic Centre HELWA Chairman. - Text: Mu'azzah Ismail/Photo: Zainuddin Salman/Translation: Yong Check Yoon
