USM SRC STRONGLY URGED TO FOLLOW-UP ON MOTIONS APPROVED – DVC
PENANG, 11 May 2013 - Universiti Sains Malaysia Student Representative Council (USM SRC) have been urged to be more aggressive in following up on the recommendations that have been debated and passed at the Student Consultative Assembly (SCA).
Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs and Development Division, Prof. Dr. Adnan Hussein, said a follow-up on the proposals are needed to facilitate the implementation process for each proposal that has been approved.
He said that the SRC needs to get response from the responsible parties so that ultimately all members of the Assembly and the campus community receive notification of the decisions approved by the SCA.
“We wanted to ensure that SCA is functioning as intended, and avoid the problem of delays in actions to be taken by the responsible parties,” he said in a speech during the opening of the SCA Series 2 here today.
Adnan also said that the SCA which adopted parliamentary democracy as practiced in this country is seen as a platform for the students to understand and apply ways to express arguments appropriately and with knowledge.
Thus, he said that presentations must be made, basing on knowledge that includes facts, relevant arguments and not basing solely on emotions.
“SCA is also a platform to debate on important motions that affect the whole campus community’s well-being, not just an individual opinion or opinions of certain parties,” he said.
In the meantime, the SRC series 2 saw a total of 15 motions debated, covering issues such as the offering of sign language course, bus fee waiver for practical students, bus facility for women, and the improvement on the level of security in campus. -- Text: Marziana Mohamed Alias/Photo: Mu'azzah Ismail/Translation: Yong Check Yoon
