SUDAN, 25 June 2013 – A Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) lecturer and expert in the field of social pharmacy, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohamed Azmi Ahmad Hassali from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (PPSF) was invited by the Sudan’s Board of Pharmacy Expertise as an external examiner for candidates who sat for the 'Fellowship for Pharmacy Specialization in Pharmaceutical Policy and Management’ course for 2013.

Mohamed Azmi, who is also the PPSF Deputy Dean, Student Affairs and Networking, also conducted two workshops dealing with counterfeit drugs at the invitation of the Sudanese National Medicines and Poison Board.

"I have also conducted workshops on the rational use of antibiotics in two hospitals in the city of Khartoum from 14 to 19 June,” said Mohamed Azmi.

"During my visit there, many Sudanese alumni who hold senior and high ranking positions in the public health service in Sudan came to visit me. The alumni there plan to establish the USM Alumni Association to strengthen the ties among them," he added.

PPSF cooperation with several universities and the health ministry around Khartoum has also been discussed and it received positive feedback from all to cooperate in the research of pharmaceutical management and policy. -- Text: Rafizah Nor Md Zain/Photo: Contribution from Assoc.
