USM STRENGTHENS TIES WITH MELAKA
AYER KEROH, MELAKA, 21 June - The Melaka State Government and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) strives to strengthen cooperation in several key areas.
The fruitful discussions were held during a formal courtesy visit by USM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato' Dr. Omar Osman, on the Chief Minister of Melaka, Y.A.B. Dato’ Wira Ir. Idris Haron at the Chief Minister of Melaka Office, Kompleks Seri Negeri here this morning. Idris was appointed as the Chief Minister after the 13th General Election held in May.
The discussion was held in a friendly environment for about an hour before both parties agreed to sign an understanding to strengthen cooperation in related areas in the near future.
“Among the areas of cooperation that we would like to get started immediately are cooperation in green technology, marine research, training professionals in various fields to increase productivity and transformation, and also particularly in dentistry and medicine to continue with the cleft lip surgery programme,” said the Vice-Chancellor.
The official courtesy visit managed to strengthen existing ties as Idris said, “the next phase of development is to ensure that the existing relationship will benefit the development of Melaka by utilising academic expertise and the university’s brand." -- Text & Photos: MOHAMAD ABDULLAH/Translation: YONG CHECK YOON
