GrAmS AWARDED KIPA SPECIAL PRIZE
PENANG, 10 June 2013 - The use of grammar in writing is very important. In order to enhance the skills of grammar usage, a group of researchers from Universiti Sains Malaysia, led by the Dean of the School of Education, ProfessorDr. Abdul Rashid Mohamed produced the 'Grammar Assessment System' or better known as GrAmS.
GrAmS is a system that evaluates the use of English grammar in a more systematic way and assesses the proficiency of a student in that language.
This product was awarded the Special Prize from Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA) which selected products that gave emphasis on international competitiveness and economic development through technology. GrAmS also won a gold medal at the International Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX) 2013 held early last May.
GrAmS was chosen by KIPA members for the award based on preparation of marketing kit, online products and interviews with researchers.
“GrAmS can help students and also at the same time help teachers to identify the weaknesses and problems faced by students both at primary and secondary levels.
“This system consists of three elements, namely Grammar Test, Grammar Matrix and Grammar Descriptor. GrAmS has a unique online system because it is able to process the results data of a student in various forms and criteria,” said Rashid.
Rashid was assisted by two other researchers from the same school, Prof. Madya Shaik Malik Mohamed Ismail and also Dr. Lin Siew Eng. -- Text: Nor Rafizah Md Zain/Photo: Contribution of Prof. Dr. Abdul Rashid Mohamed/Translation: Yong Check Yoon
