USM STUDENT SELECTED FOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAMME IN VIETNAM
PENANG, 11 July 2013 - Yap Ken Vun, a student from Universiti Sains Malaysia School of Social Sciences was selected for the Green Summer Volunteer programme in Vietnam.
Yap, a student majoring in Economics was among the four students from Malaysia selected for the programme.Other selected students are Mohd Syafiq Md Khairuddin from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Nur Fatin Anis Mohd Zuber and Nur Fatihah Arifin from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak.
"I am very excited to be selected as the top four candidates and this will be a challenge for me as I will be observing Ramadan and celebrating Raya there," he said.
"This programme will instill the spirit of volunteerism among the students in the areas of English learning, Agricultureand Public Health," added Yap, who is also a leader in the student community service.
This programme was organised by the Student Volunteers Foundation (YSS) and chaired by Dato’ Zuraidah Atan, who is also a member of USM Board of Governors.
"On behalf of YSS, I would like to inform that the selection of students for this programme has been finalised. The programme will begin from July 13 until August 15, 2013 with the cooperation of Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union(HCMCYU)," said Zuraidah.
The group will be working with the Vietnamese Student Volunteers from the Foreign Trade University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, and the Ho Chi Minh City University of Pedagogy.
