VC: CHOOSE A FIELD WITH GOOD CAREER ADVANCEMENT
PENANG, 10 July 2013 – Universiti Sains Malaysia Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato' Dr. Omar Osman advised all students who will further their studies at the higher learning institutions to choose courses in their field of interest that could help nurture their future development and career advancement.
Some of the candidates who applied to USM may receive offers not only from USM but also from other universities as well through the Student Selection Division of the Ministry of Education for this 2013/2014 academic session.
"A total of 20,320 candidates with STPM/Matriculation/Foundation/Diploma/A-Level/IB or equivalent qualifications have applied for USM, an increase of almost 30% compared to the last academic session where we received 14,222 applications," said Omar.
From that number, a total of 5,337 candidates were offered places in USM in various fields after undergoing an interview session. This includes 12 different ability persons (OKU) and a minimum of 100 students from poor family background, in line with the university’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) agenda.
"Before confirming the offer acceptance, students are advised to consult their family members and take into consideration their area of interest and courses that could help nurture a career path for them," advised Omar.
He added that registration of new students in all three campuses - the Main Campus, the Nibong Tebal Engineering Campus and Kubang Kerian Kelantan Health Campus - begins on 1st September 2013.
All students who have applied for USM can check the results of their application at https://pohon.usm.my starting from 12.00 noon on July 11 until before 12.00 midnight on July 21. For appeal cases, the application has to be made online via the E-Rayuan column on the same site, which will be closed at 12.00 midnight on July 21.
