MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR THE FUTURE, SAYS VC
PENANG, 2 September 2013 – A person always has a choice in determining his direction and future. It is up to the person to make the right choice.
Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dato’ Dr. Omar Osman advised the new USM students at the Welcoming Dinner here.
“The University is very appreciative of the talents available and is willing to help those who want to develop yourselves as far as possible and depending on the desires and choices made by you,” said the Vice-Chancellor.
He advised students to make the wisest choice for any decision as the decision they make can have an impact on their lives in the future.
“Just as the choice is made for admission to a university, most things require a person to make the right choice, but there are times when we do not have many options such as we can no longer make such a choice when we are sick,” said Omar. “Under such circumstances, we have no other choices but to treat it. Likewise when a student who does not study and does not meet the conditions required to obtain a degree, the university also has no option but to remove the student.”
He also reminded the new students to really examine whatever choices made so as to remain relevant and consistent with the requirements and needs of the individual, one’s family and the community because it is oneself who would have to bear the consequences of the choices made.
“Students who will determine the destiny of themselves will also determine that of the university and the nation, thus I urge all of us to forge a common destiny through the available choices and to achieve our aims,” the Vice-Chancellor added.
A total of 200 new students staying at Desasiswa Cahaya Gemilang attended a dinner held at the USM Centre for Co-Curriculum Programmes.
