VC URGES GRADUATES TO BE HOLISTIC AND EMBRACE GLOBAL VALUES
KOTA BHARU, 17 Aug 2013 - Graduates should be versatile and master all the necessary skills to compete. Only in this way graduates can develop the competitive advantage when entering the job market.
This was stated by Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr. Omar Osman, to the students of the School of Dental Sciences during the 10th Graduation Dinner held at the Kelantan Trade Centre here.
“I urge USM students and graduates to equip themselves with various skills to compete at home and abroad even though the need and demand for dental graduates in the country are still high and very necessary,” said Omar.
Moreover, the university urged and called upon the Schools to position and make strategic planning so that students and graduates can be accepted globally because they may not stay in the country forever just to get jobs.
“I think all parties need to work hard to add value and take the necessary action to enable us to compete globally, including giving our students and graduates the courage to do so, and more importantly, becoming someone useful no matter within own country or elsewhere in the world,” the Vice-Chancellor added.
Many activities were held during the ceremony and they included lucky draws and special awards presentation.
More than 150 people attended and they included the Health Campus Director, Professor Dato’ Dr. Mafauzy Mohamad; the School of Dental Sciences Dean, Associate Professor Dr. Adam Hussein; the School of Health Sciences Dean, Professor Dr. Ahmad Zakaria; and the School of Dental Sciences Founding Dean, Professor Dato’ Dr. Ab Rani Shamsuddin. - Text: Mohamad Abdullah/Translation: Yong Check Yoon
