T&L TECHNIQUES SHOULD BE BALANCED WITH TECHNOLOGY

PENANG, 31 October 2013 - In line with the development of technology, Teaching and Learning (T&L) techniques has also grown with the use of latest technology. Therefore, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) through the Centre for Academic Excellence & Student Advisory and Development (CDAE), and Centre for Knowledge, Communication and Technology (PPKT) hosted the Annual Seminar of Teaching and Learning 2013.

This year the seminar is about the New Culture of Learning and Teaching and was officiated by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Professor Dato' Dr. Ahmad Shukri Mustapa Kamal, representing the Vice-Chancellor.

According to Ahmad Shukri, seminars such as this, exposed participants from the academic staff of public and private institutions of higher education (IPTA/S), to the T&L method-based technology. Sharing of best practices can then be applied in a lecture hall.

“T&L techniques used must be appropriate with the students of today as the use of the social media and life in the digital world is very different from our time,” added Ahmad Shukri.

The seminar was attended by over 250 lecturers from USM and other IPTA/S as well as the trainee teachers. This seminar received an overwhelming response when it was first held in 2009 and this year, for the first time, will be held at USM Health Campus in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan, on 17 November 2013.

Among the invited speakers are the Chancellor, University of the Philippines, Professor Dr. Grace Javier Alfonso who has over 15 years of experience in the field of multimedia and the academics from the local universities. - Translation: Yong Check Yoon/Photos: Nor Rafizah Md. Zain
