121113-1

PENANG, 12 November 2013 - “I would like to urge students to capture the language diversity and also learn about the culture of a country at the same time share knowledge and social developments together.”

That was the expectation of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dato’ Dr. Omar Osman from USM students.

According to Omar, the mastery of a language must be accompanied by the culture of that country so that the scope of knowledge and the future of the student will be limitless.

He explained that language definitely plays an important role in relationships, employment or interaction among countries but not forgetting that the culture of a country should be emphasised in a way that we can understand the diversity of people better and unite to achieve success.

He said that during the launching of International Language Learning Conference 2013 (ILLC 2013) today.

According to Omar, the primary educators are teachers and particularly university lecturers in general who need to look at cultural differences as the strength of a country, not as a problem that needed to be eradicated.

“Students of today should be provided with the experience of other cultures that will enable them to acquire knowledge, skills, and the essence of their culture which function as a catalyst to unity of the Ummah (Muslim community) in this world,” said Vice-Chancellor added.
