ROBOTIC WORLD ENLIVENS USM SPACE FESTIVAL
PENANG, 8 November 2013 - The visitors of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Penang Space Festival which will be held on 14 and 16 November will be treated to an impressive and thrilling robotics world experience.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Industry and Community Network, Professor Dato’ Dr. See Ching Mey said that the specific theme for this second annual event is “Arts in Robotics World” and it is used to attract more visitors.
She added that the main objective is to give the public an exposure to new developments in the scientific world (Robotech) as well as the use of the latest technology in the invention of robotic technology.
“Visitors will have an opportunity to see the world of Robotic Sciences in detail particularly the use of robotic technology that will lead to the development of other fields such as computer animation, 3D objects and multimedia production.
“The festival is expected to serve as a special medium to help visitors from all backgrounds in understanding and familiarising with the development of digital media,” she said during the press conference of the festival recently.
He added that more than 30,000 visitors attended the festival last year which also can be seen as a platform to strengthen the success of the University’s community engagement programme.
“The programme is centered on the community engagement programme between USM and the industries in science and technology, especially those related to the fields of astronomy or space science and other field-related fields,'' he said.
Meanwhile, this three-day programme is open to the public at the Padang Kawad and USM Dewan Utama Pelajar, featuring activities such as robotics exhibition, astronomical observation activities, and interactive games.
Besides these, a series of lectures and workshops will be held during the programme to educate the public on science and technology, particularly in the fields of robotics engineering and astronomy.
The festival is organised by USM through the Division of Industry and Community Network together with Northern Skills Development Centre (NSDC), Penang Mufti Department and the Education Department of Penang.
