USM SHARES EXISTING EXPERTISE WITH UMT
PENANG, 17 January 2014 - Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr. Omar Osman, today expressed willingness to share USM’s expertise in various fields of study in order to ensure that benefits can be accessed by various stakeholders.
Speaking during a courtesy call by the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Ibrahim Komoo at the Centre for Global Archaeological Research (CGAR), Omar also described the cooperation that exists between the USM-UMT and also the strengthening of the bilateral ties between the two universities.
“Currently USM is involved in many areas of research, and I would be honoured if UMT also requires our expertise and advice on anything,” said Omar.
Ibraham felt UTM being one of the ‘young’ universities welcomed the preparedness of USM to ‘open its door’ and the sharing of experiences and the application of new ideas.
“UMT is keen to seek USM expertise especially in the areas of Marine and Coastal Studies (CEMACS), Biological Sciences and Social Sciences,” he said.
He added that UMT plans to establish a new research centre to be known as the 'Marine Archaeology' and his hope to work with CGAR later.
At the same ceremony, the two Vice-Chancellors were also briefed by CGAR Director, Professor Dr. Mohd Mokhtar Saidin and visiting professor, Professor Dr. Hamzah Mohamad about some of the successes achieved by CGAR and the establishment of new laboratories that are expected to boost the name of CGAR and USM internationally. - Translation: Yong Check Yoon/Text: Mohamad Danial Shahri/Photo: Mohd Fairus Md Isa
